Warm up inside Steamers’ cozy Beach Side Bar & Oven
Steamers Beach Side Bar and Oven is tucked into a little lakefront nook on North Lake Boulevard in Kings Beach. With plenty of room for outdoor seating, summer is certainly Steamers season. But, wintertime at Steamers isnt necessarily dark. Inside, blond wooden accents and green carpet and booths create a bright interior. A cozy bar area complete with fireplace and a handful of regular locals greets you as you walk through the door. High definition, big screen TVs are mounted in corners throughout this first area, broadcasting the latest sporting event. Old photographs of Tahoes steamboats and their captains and crews decorate the walls. A step-down leads to a second area suitable for big parties and with big windows facing the lake.
Steamers is well-known for its pizza. Dough is made fresh daily and hand tossed for your order, according to the menu. The result is a light, crispy flavor that tastes deliciously fresh. Special pizzas include Steamers Combo (with everything except the fish in the lake), For The Birds, featuring grilled, cajun or barbecue chicken, and the First Date, with clam and fresh garlic. The menu seems to mirror the mood inside Steamers which is casual and light. Youll also find a good listing of oven baked sandwiches, a clam chowder, salads, the traditional bar-style appetizer menu and a good offering of calzones. You can order a big bowl of housemade potato chips off the appetizer menu, which are pretty good, but if you think youll be getting a sandwich make note that chips come with the sammies as well.
This is a sports bar and a beach bar after all. Theres a nice list of Steamers Special Cocktails which includes concoctions like Steamers Grog, labeled very dangerous with many rums and fruit juices. Feeling spicy? Try a Pepper-tini with hot pepper spiked Gordons which is only for the strong and brave. Youll also find a line-up of brews on tap and hot, alcoholic drinks as well.
The calzone is not only delicious, its also a great deal. Calzones are made with the same handrolled, homemade dough that Steamers uses to make their small pizzas, which just emphasizes how good homemade dough tastes.
