Weak system to bring cloudy skies, rain or snow showers

LAKE TAHOE ” Despite a general trend toward dry and mild weather, a weakening frontal system will bring increasing clouds tonight with scattered light rain or snow showers on Saturday.

This weather system could bring an inch or two of snow above 7,000 feet and a mixture of rain and snow at lake level but with no significant accumulation.

Highs today are forecast to reach into the upper 30s to lower 40s around the lake under partly cloudy skies and light surface winds. Lows tonight will drop into the teens and lower 20s under mostly cloudy skies ahead of the approaching frontal system Saturday.

Highs Saturday are expected to reach the upper 30s under cloudy skies and light winds. Lows Sunday morning should cool off into the single digits to lower teens with clearing skies overnight. Watch for areas of morning freezing fog especially near Truckee as strong inversions develop in this stable air mass.

Sunday looks to be the best weather day of the weekend as high pressure aloft builds strongly over the area. Highs on Sunday are projected to reach the mid 40s at lake level with mostly sunny skies and light winds. Have a great weekend.
