Weather forecast: 3-5 inches of snow in Truckee on Thursday, Feb. 22
A storm is expected to drop several more inches of snow in the Truckee area on Thursday, Feb. 22, the National Weather Service Office in Reno said.
Scattered snow showers are forecast to start after 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, and then continue overnight. About 3-5 inches of snow is possible on Thursday, with another 1-2 inches in the evening.
The high for Thursday should be near 27 degrees with a low around 10 degrees.
There is a 20 percent chance of snow showers on Friday, Feb. 23.
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) also issued an alert on Wednesday advising motorists to be ready for winter driving conditions on local and regional highways.
“Intermittent periods of rapid snow accumulations on Donner and Echo Summit passes are expected with this storm, impacting travel on foothill and mountain highways, including Interstate 80 and U.S. Highway 50 where chain controls are expected,” said Caltrans in a statement.
“Additionally, the severe cold will create very slick and icy conditions on all Northern California roadways.”
The storm would come on the heels of a weekend weather system that dropped 8 inches of snow at Boreal Ski Resort, 6 inches at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, and 5 inches at Northstar California Resort.
