Weather: Rain and snow possible this week

LAKE TAHOE ” The potential for rain and snow is possible later this week, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Weather models show an unstable air mass that may enhance the chance for precipitation over the Sierra Wednesday night through Sunday. Whether the pattern will split is still undetermined, according to a Weather Service discussion group.

Meanwhile, temperatures look to remain mild today and Tuesday, as some rain could fall Wednesday with a chance of snow forecasted toward the end of this week.

Today: Sunny, with a high near 54. East wind around 5 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 27. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 52. South wind around 5 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. South wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of rain showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33.

Thursday: A chance of rain. Snow level 6,500 feet. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Thursday Night: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27.

Friday: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42.

Friday Night: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25.

Saturday: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41.

Saturday Night: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25.

Sunday: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44.
