Weather service issues wind advisory

RENO ” A wind advisory is effect from this morning to 4 p.m. this afternoon, according to a statement by the Natational Weather Service in Reno.

A cold front is pushing into northwest California and will arrive over the Lake Tahoe Basin and Western Nevada during the late morning and early afternoon hours. Winds will likely increase mainly after 7 a.m. this morning.

Southwest winds will increase and then shift to the northwest with frontal passage of the front during the afternoon. Winds will gust to 45 mph for several hours prior to the arrival of the front and continue for an hour or two after the frontal passage, according to the weather service.

Locally stronger wind gusts to 55 mph are possible in the foothill regions of western Nevada including Genoa.

Motorists, especially in high profile vehicles, should use caution and remain alert for sudden gusts or cross winds. Roads most affected include Interstate 80, Highways 395 and 50, Nevada State Route 28 and California State Route 89.
