The increasing snowfall throughout the day has brought mandatory chain requirements along many major highways in and around the Lake Tahoe Basin, including state routes 431, 28 and 267 and parts of 395. There also is a high wind advicory in effect for state Route 395 between 2.3 miles north of Junction US 395 Business and State Route 529-North Carson Street and 0 miles north of Winters Ranch.
As always, take extreme caution if driving to or from Reno on state Route 431, as well as any of the other public and private roadways in and around the Lake Tahoe basin. As the snow accumulates today, coupled with a rising temperature of an expected 35 degrees, driving conditions could worsen, so be very careful. Also, once the wet snow begins to freeze as the evening approaches, road conditions could be very dangerous.
And, as always, be aware of snow removal equipment on the roads.
