The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is upon us. It seems hard to fit fun and relaxation into our busy schedules. This year, find the perfect gift while enjoying great wine-themed events.The local scene has fantastic wine events worth penciling in.On Dec. 4, join Truckees Slow Food Movement by attending Dine-Around. This event will offer a sampling of delicious dishes prepared with local and seasonal ingredients, which have been paired with exceptional wines. Offering tantalizing dishes and wonderful wines that evening will be Dragonfly, Pianetta Ristorante, Pacific Crest, Moodys and The Pour House. This dining adventure will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Purchase tickets prior to the event at The Pour House, 10075 Jibboom St. for $80 per person.A benefit for Project MANA will be held Sunday, Dec. 7, from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at Coyote Moon, 100685 Northwoods Blvd. Enjoy great food prepared by a stellar line-up of area executive chefs with wonderful wines, all for a good cause. Tickets are available at Florians Fine Wines andamp; Specialty Foods, located in Safeway Shopping Center, Truckee, and will cost $55 per person.The Four Peaks Restaurant at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort will continue with their outstanding wine-makers dinners this month. On Dec. 13, you will have a chance to sample fantastic wines from the renowned Keenan Winery. Michael Keenan will be discussing his wines while you enjoy a wonderfully prepared dinner by Executive Chef Alan Davis. Call (530) 426-6742, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. ZD Vineyard will be teaming up with Chef Davis for the final wine dinner of 2008 on Dec. 20. Uncorked at Squaw Valley will be hosting the Canihan Family Winery from 4 to 7 p.m., Dec. 19 and 20. The winery is located in Sonoma and produces exceptional Pinot Noir, Syrah and Cabernet Franc from certified organic vineyards. Call 584-6090 for more information.This month The Pour House will continue with their Thursday night tastings, from 5 to 7 p.m. (Except Thursday, which is the Slow Food sampling.)Or make a quick get away for holiday events in our nearby wine regions.SonomaOn Dec. 6, Gundlach Bundschu will be hosting a holiday open house at their winery located at 2000 Denmark St., Sonoma. Bring an unwrapped new toy and you will receive a complimentary tasting and appetizers from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Join their wine club that day and you will be able to attend their library wine tasting in their cave. Call (707) 938-5277.Also on Dec. 6, Jordan will be holding a Christmas party with samples of their 04 Cabernet, 83 Riviere Russo and several library selections, accompanied with Hog Island oysters, cheeses and other appetizers. To be held in the Jordan dining room, 1474 Alexander Valley Road, Healdsburg. The fee is $45, and the event starts at 2 p.m., call (800) 654-1213 for more information.The following weekend, Arrowood Vineyards will be hosting a relaxing special tasting of their allocated library wines along with their new releases, with special appetizers to try. Their tasting room offers great views of the Sonoma Valley and weather permitting they will have a warm fire roaring in the fireplace. The cost is $10, and the tasting will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Call (800) 938-5170.The last week in December, Chateau St. Jean will be offering a special end- of-the-year tasting, wine and merchandise sale, 8555 Hwy. 12, Sonoma. Tasting will cost $10 or $15 for reserve wines. Call (707) 833-4134 ext. 5258.NapaCheck out Napa Valleys Peju Winerys Holiday open house on Dec. 5. Pick up some great gifts while enjoying their wines and nibbling on appetizers. This is a free event, but you must make reservations. Call (707) 963-3600. The winery is located in Rutherford at 8466 St. Helena Hwy.Sequoia Grove will be offering tastes of their 05 Rutherford Bench Reserve Cabernet, Dec. 6 from noon to 5 p.m., along with food, samplers while you shop for interesting gifts in their boutique. The winery is located at 8338 St. Helena Hwy. The tastings will cost $25. Call (707) 944-2945 ext. 104.On that same weekend, the Rutherfords Wine Passport weekend will take place at various wineries located in the Rutherford Appellation. The fee will be $50 for two days, or $40 for Sunday only, call (707) 302-1124 for a list of participating wineries.Then on Dec. 7, attend Judd Hills Hanukkah Hootenanny, 2332 Silverado Trail, Napa. There will be music, a latke bar, and of course wines to try. $40 per person. Call (707) 255-2332.Rubicon Estate will also be hosting a free open house at the winery which is located at 1991 St. Helena Hwy., Rutherford. They are offering wine tastings, appetizers and a chance to finish your shopping in their gift store. Call (707) 968-1174 for reservations.Domaine Chandon at 1 California Dr. in Yountville will be hosting their annual New Years Eve party. A six-course tasting menu paired with Chandon wines, will be served from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. with a party to follow.
