Winter parking enforcement begins Friday at Tahoe

TAHOE/TRUCKEE — Beginning Friday, Nov. 1, people who park along town and county rights of way throughout the North Tahoe/Truckee region will be subject to a parking ticket and/or having their vehicle towed.

For the town of Truckee, right of way includes areas on both sides of the snow poles, according to Truckee Police. In other words, even if a vehicle is parked off the pavement, it may still be in the right of way.

The intent of this law — which is en effect through April 30, 2013 — is to prevent damage to vehicles from snow removal equipment.

Similarly, laws are in place throughout roads in El Dorado, Nevada and Placer counties in California, and Washoe County in Nevada, each year from a Nov. 1 through May 1 timeframe.
