Woman arrested on weapons charges

Last Tuesday evening officers arrested a woman in front of Tahoe Forest Hospital who was in possession of loaded firearms in her vehicle.

Nevada County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to TFH just after 7 p.m. on Feb. 6 when hospital staff called to report a woman who had been threatening staff in the past was at the hospital. She was reportedly wandering the halls before staff called the sheriff’s office.

On arrival, officers found 40-year-old Maria Metko-Morse in a pick-up truck in front of the main entrance to the hospital. While identifying the woman, they located a loaded .45 caliber pistol in the truck cab.

“They also found two rifles in the back of the pick-up,” NCSO Capt. Gary Jacobson said.

Metko-Morse, who was listed as a transient, was taken into custody and arrested for possession of a concealed weapon in her vehicle, carrying a loaded firearm and for possession of an unregulated assault weapon.

She did not have the weapons on her while she was inside the hospital building, Jacobson said.

She remains in custody at the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility in Nevada City and is being held on $25,000 bail.
