Woman’s body found northeast of Truckee

Sierra County sheriff’s deputies Thursday found the remains of a woman in the mountains west of Verdi, Nev., near a motorcycle that they believe was stolen in Reno earlier this month.

Chasity Santistevan, who officials say was in her 30s, was found dead off of Dog Valley Road by Sierra County search and rescue. Her death did not appear to be a murder, said John Fatheree, deputy sheriff for Sierra County.

Nearby, where Dog Valley road turns to dirt, a motorcycle that law enforcement believe was stolen in Reno on May 5 was stashed in the brush near a creek. Santistevan’s body was found farther up Dog Valley Road, Fatheree said.

Officials believe that Santistevan and another person stashed the motorcycle in the brush and fled on foot up Dog Valley Road. They were not being pursued at the time, Fatheree said.

Deputies discovered the body following an anonymous tip that was called into the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Sierra County officials are awaiting toxicology reports to determine the cause of Santistevan’s death.
