The Alpenglow Mountain Festival continues through Sunday with a slew of outdoor, human-powered sports to register for and participate in.

TAHOE-TRUCKEE — Below are the Sierra Sun’s picks for the Top 10 events to check out this weekend at Truckee and Lake Tahoe.

1. Alpenglow Mountain Festival

Experience a new sport during Alpenglow Sports’ Mountain Festival, which wraps this weekend. Be sure to check the calendar multiple times per day in case spots open in full classes you’d like to attend.

When: Friday, Feb. 24 – Sunday, Feb. 26 (event started Feb. 18)

Where: Varies depending on class

Cost: Varies depending on class


2. Ski/Boarder Cross Event – Winter Superstars Week

All ages are invited to compete in ski and snowboard races as part of Winter Superstars Week at Tahoe Donner. A medal ceremony will be held directly after the event.

When: Friday, Feb. 24 | 2 p.m.

Where: Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Area

Cost: Free to compete


3. Sunset Friday Snowshoe Tour

Enjoy serenity in the mountains as you make your way through the trees on a snowshoe tour to the setting sun. The Tahoe Adventure Company tour includes snowshoes, poles, guides, history discussions, hot drinks, trail snacks and permit fees.

When: Friday, Feb. 24 | 4 p.m.

Where: North Lake Tahoe

Cost: $65 per person


4. Ceramic Plates Workshop

Learn from local ceramic artist Melanie Frakes who will teach students to craft 8-10 of their very own ceramic plates. All supplies are included though students are encouraged to bring stamps, stencils or textures they’d like to imprint on clay.

When: Friday, Feb. 24 | 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Where: Atelier, Truckee

Cost: $75


5. Subaru Winterfest

Enjoy live music by Harman Kardon, s’mores and craft OZO coffee at winterfest this weekend. You’ll be eligible for awesome giveaways and be able to test out the latest gear from top brands.

When: Friday, Feb. 24 to Saturday, Feb. 25

Where: Boreal Mountain Resort

Cost: Free event


6. Benjah Ninjah & Little Miss Mixer at the CBC

Tahoe-area DJ Benjah Ninjah and Little Miss Mixer will spin EDM tracks from the Crystal Bay Casino’s Red Room for guests age 21 and over who are ready to dance the night away.

When: Saturday, Feb. 25 | 10 p.m.

Where: Crystal Bay Casino, Red Room

Cost: Free


7. Ron Stubbs Rock & Roll Hypnosis Show

Hypnotherapist Ron Stubbs makes audience members the “stars” of the evening as they shake their inhibitions and perform, hypnotized, on Lake Tahoe’s South Shore.

When: Saturday, Feb. 25 | 8 p.m.

Where: Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Stateline

Cost: $15


8. Stop the Self Sabotage Madness & Let the Healing Begin!

Stacey Angelow and Colleen Akiko are alternative healing practitioners hosting a class to provide empowering tools for creating a more “healing-full” life.

When: Saturday, Feb. 25 | 10a.m. – 12p.m.

Where: For Goodness Sake, Truckee

Cost: $35


9. Poi Workshop

Learn a new skill or perfect your poi technique with this class focused on planes, body movement and rhythm in spinning poi.

When: Sunday, Feb. 26 | 2-4 p.m.

Where: Tahoe Flow Arts Studio, Tahoe Vista

Cost: $20 in advance, $25 day-of


10. Women of Winter Clinic

Intermediate to expert level women skiers age 13+ are invited to explore Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows’ legendary terrain with supportive, like-minded ladies.

When: Sunday, Feb. 26 | 9 a.m. to noon

Where: Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows

Cost: $49 in advance, $69 regularly
