101.5FM hits 50: Local radio station gains listeners, launches successful giveaways
TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212;-After one year of new management, local radio station 101.5FM Truckee Tahoe Radio is reaching listeners across the country and globally. Through updated playlists, enhanced giveaways and targeted programming, 101.5FM has increased listenership to include all 50 states and more than 50 countries (yes, 50 countries).
The Triple A format (Adult-Album-Alternative) and independent status means the station plays a wide variety of music. 101.5FM responded to listener feedback and has continually updated playlists.
The station teamed up with Alaska Rendezvous Heli-Guides in the fall of 2010 for what management calls, and#8220;just the beginning.and#8221;
and#8220;We are going bigger than ever before,and#8221; says the stationand#8217;s Fearless Leader JD Hoss. and#8220;2012 will be the best year the station has ever seen.and#8221;
In April of 2011, 101.5FM sent Tahoe Donner resident Misty Garberson and her husband to Valdez, Alaska for a trip most only dream about including roundtrip airfare and a week of heli-skiing. The station launched a fall promotion with Alpine Power Equipment of Tahoe City to give away a Honda snow blower valued at more than $2,500. Also planned is a promotion with nonprofit High Fives and Thin Air Motorsports to award one lucky winner a Skidoo Summit snowmobile.
For the second season, sports broadcasters Rory Oand#8217;Farrell and K.T. provde weekly live coverage of the Truckee Wolverine Football games.
In addition, 101.5FM appeals to a variety of musical tastes through shows like the Chuck Dunn Choose Blues Hour, Deep Tracks with Mr. D, and Positive Vibrations with DJ Treez. In her sixth year behind the mic Lindsay and#8220;with an Aand#8221; remains the go-to source for breaking news, local weather and weekly giveaways. New to the team in 2010, afternoon drive DJ and#8220;Crash Testand#8221; Kevin has gained a loyal following. The summer Scheeland#8217;s Weekend Show with Pam Farris and winterand#8217;s Big Bri keeps listeners informed of anything and everything outdoors. As always, the JD Hoss powder patrol updates remain highly coveted on-air announcements.
