5th Annual Dia de los Muertos to benefit families in need
TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The Family Resource Center of Truckee, (FRCT) a local nonprofit organization dedicated to providing education, resources and advocacy for vulnerable families, will hold its 5th annual Dia de los Muertos event Friday, Nov. 4, 5 p.m. at the Community Arts Center in Downtown Truckee.
The event, also known as and#8220;Day of the Dead,and#8221; recognizes the Latin American holiday that focuses on gatherings of family and friends to remember those who have passed on.
While this modern holiday dates back thousands of years, the Family Resource Center’s event is meant to recognize cultural diversity within the Truckee community, honor local citizens who have passed on, and raise funds for critical services to benefit needy families.
This exciting event will feature delicious Mexican food, unique entertainment, children’s activities, altar displays, and presentation of our and#8220;Local Champion Award.and#8221;
Guests can win a grand prize raffle or other raffle and auction items in support of the FRCT. Items include hotel stays, dining certificates, ski and spa packages, and a flat screen TV. Grand prize raffle tickets are $10 each. An affordable family fundraiser you won’t want to miss!
The Family Resource Center of Truckee has served families and individuals since 2001. In the past year they have provided services to 985 low-income households.
Families were helped with basic services in areas that include parent/child education; legal referrals and mediation; healthcare access; emergency assistance; child abuse prevention; family support; peer-to-peer education and resource and referrals.
