A look back: A summer day with Truckee-Donner Park andamp; Recreation District
TRUCKEE, Calif. andamp;#8212; As summer officially comes to a close, here is a fond look back at a typical summer day with the Truckee-Donner Recreation andamp; Park District.6:30 a.m. Get moving with one of the exercise classes at the Community Recreation Center with Jazzercise, fat burn and body sculpting, boot camp or workout at the track. 7:30 a.m. You need to walk! Head down to the Legacy Trail at the Regional Park and walk along the Truckee River, 1.8 miles to get your cardio started for the day.8 a.m. Stop by the pool and swim a few laps at the Truckee High School. 8:30 a.m. Drop your pre-schoolers off at the Community Center for the Butterflies or Grasshopper programs. 9 a.m. Join the kidandamp;#8217;s ballet, tap or hip hop classes at the Community Center9:30 a.m. Head to West End Beach on Donner Lake. Picnic, play horseshoes, basketball or tennis. Take your stuff. Rent a stand up paddleboard, kayak, cruise on a paddle boat or relax on the wide sandy beach.10 a.m. Tee it up! Play 9 or 18 holes at the Ponderosa Golf course. The best golf value in Tahoe.11 a.m. Roll over to the Truckee Skateboard Park for a skate session by the Regional Park.11:30 a.m. Like basketball? Go to the Recreation Center and play some noon ball with the boys.Noon Take a picnic lunch to one of the four parks in the District with your family.1 p.m. Head back to Donner Lake to take a sailing clinic to prepare for the summer Race Series.1:30 p.m. Take a break and enjoy the view on one of the 35 public piers on Donner Lake owned and maintained by TDRPD.2 p.m. Play some pickleball at the Community Recreation Center with the tennis people.3 p.m. Go to the Regional Park and play a round of disc golf on Truckeeandamp;#8217;s challenging disc golf course.4 p.m. Play bocce? Check out the new bocce courts at the River View Sports Park or catch a soccer tournament while youandamp;#8217;re there.5 p.m. Itandamp;#8217;s Wednesday. Get ready for the free concert at the beautiful amphitheater at the Regional Park. Take your beach chairs and picnic.5:30 p.m. Roll back up to the Rec. Center for another workout. Take the karate class or go upstairs to the track and use the exercise equipment for a great workout.6 p.m. Try the two new climbing walls at the Community Recreation Center with auto belays for a balance and agility session.6:30 p.m. Itandamp;#8217;s baseball time at the Regional Park. Catch a game of Little League, girls or menandamp;#8217;s softball or take the little ones to the play park behind the field.7 p.m. Head to the Veteranandamp;#8217;s Hall on the hill above Truckee for a senior basketball andamp;#8220;drop inandamp;#8221; game.8 p.m. Go for a moonlight paddle on Donner Lake and store your watercraft in the racks at West End Beach.andamp;#8212; Submitted to aedgett@sierrasun.com
