A SEARS hometown sale Truckee style

Special to the Sun

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Truckee Sears Hometown Store owners Charlie and Nancy Riley are celebrating Valentine’s Day by inviting their friends and neighbors to visit the store to take advantage of a special sale.

and#8220;Each four to eight weeks SEARS gives their hometown store owners the chance to pass on special savings to their employees, friends and neighbors,and#8221; said Charlie Riley. and#8220;And we treat everyone in the community as a friend and neighbor for these sales.and#8221;

Valentine’s Day SEARS is letting the store give an extra 15 percent off most appliances, or special financing or special delivery pricing, on top of the normal store sale pricing. and#8220;This means on a Kenmore appliance a family friend or neighbor can get an extra 15 percent on top of the 15 percent the appliance is already on sale for,and#8221; said Riley. and#8220;Thirty percent off a new Kenmore washer and dryer makes a difference.and#8221;

The store is also taking an extra 10 percent off most of their lawn and garden items, floor care, home electronics, and mattresses for Monday only.

The Riley’s like to combine their sales with a personal community spin. This includes partnering with another local business to do something special, or promoting an important community group or project. In the past the store has donated two percent of one day’s sales to Project MANA during a busy holiday weekend before Christmas. Following that, in January, they invited the entire Tahoe Donner Community to join them for a pizza dinner at the store. The dinner was catered by Truckee Pizza, their store neighbor, at Citizen’s Bank Plaza, in West Truckee.

The pizza dinner idea was promoted to the homeowners in the Tahoe Donner Association’s magazine. and#8220;It was pretty scary to be honestand#8221; said Riley. and#8220;I told my wife we were in trouble if all 6,000 Tahoe Donner families showed up for pizza.and#8221;

At this Monday’s sale the store is helping promote Truckee High School’s Project Graduation, selling raffle tickets this year’s Grad Night fundraiser.

This Monday the store will be open special hours from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. for the special event.
