Across the Universe: Stay informed through our email newsletters
Way back when, William Butler Yeats was known as a whimsical and wonderful wordsmith.
The Irishman who died a little more than 77 years ago on Jan. 28, 1939, is considered one of the greatest poets of all time, and he ranks up there with Robert Frost and T.S. Elliot as perhaps the most important person to contribute to the 20th century literature movement.
The man won The Nobel Prize in Literature 1923, after all, “for his always inspired poetry, which in a highly artistic form gives expression to the spirit of a whole nation,” according to The Nobel Foundation.
Yeats is known for plenty of spot-on inspirational writings and sayings (perhaps none more quotable than, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”), but my personal favorite is the following: “Think like a wise man but communicate in the language of the people.”
And let me tell you, these days, a good chunk of that language is dominated by digital. From Facebook commentary to comment sections on websites to Instagram to email — you name it, our readers are on it.
So with that in mind, the Sierra Sun and North Lake Tahoe Bonanza recently launched our “Your Tahoe Weekend” email newsletter, which comes out every Thursday at noon. It’s the latest in a series of email newsletters we’re creating for our readers to become more informed about all things Truckee-Tahoe.
“Your Tahoe Weekend” features a variety of entertainment, recreation and event news from the entire region, including our weekly Top 10 events calendar of the same name, which provides locals and visitors with a bevy of options to help plan a fun weekend, whether it be music concerts, snowshoe hikes, family events and more.
This latest e-newsletter reflects a partnership with the Tahoe Daily Tribune and Lake Tahoe Action, our sister newspaper and entertainment/recreation guide, respectively, that are anchored at the South Shore of Lake Tahoe.
Each Thursday at noon, the e-newsletter will be timely and focused on what’s happening now and in the near future, so be sure to sign up today by visiting SierraSun.com on your desktop/laptop, tablet or smartphone.
On your desktop/laptop, go to the main page and you see a newsletter section along the far right rail. On mobile devices, just scroll down a bit to see the same interface; simply input your email address and check “Weekend Entertainment Guide,” and you’re all set.
By the way, we also put out a local news e-newsletter every Monday morning called, appropriately, “Monday Morning Report.” It also reflects a lakewide partnership and is focused on providing key areas of local news throughout the Truckee-Tahoe region. Just check “Locals Newsletter,” enter your email, and click “Sign Up.” Then, just take care of the normal follow-up email so we can make sure you’re not a robot, and you’ll be all set.
And while you’re at it, be sure to check the boxes of some of the other e-newsletter options we’re currently developing. They are all easy ways to stay in touch with Tahoe-Truckee news and events, even when you can’t pick up the paper or check out our website throughout the day.
