TRUCKEE and#8212; The holiday explosion is almost over, with the exception of hearts ready to burst with gratitude and the exuberance of feeling cared for and remembered: The hearts of Meals on Wheels participants of Sierra Senior Services in Truckee, Tahoe City and Kings Beach areas. The glistening eyes, the smiles of joy and the wonderment of this holiday season show across every homebound seniors’ face.

Once again The Queen of Hearts and Truckee Community Christmas went beyond the and#8220;just giving a gift.and#8221; The presents were wrapped so brilliantly, they were outshone only by the surprises inside.

The bags of food and grocery cards are packed with much care and presented in reusable cloth bags, provide nourishment and sensitivity for participants and Mother Earth alike.

This year, the Nevada Association of Porcelain Artists, a nonprofit group that meticulously hand painted more than 50 beautiful porcelain ornaments joined the giving loop. The ornaments were delivered with presents from the Queen of Hearts and food from Truckee Community Christmas by Sierra Senior Services jolly volunteer drivers. Longtime driving volunteer Nancy Williams won the Kindness Award from Plumas Bank.

It takes a village of committed, kind-hearted and compassionate souls to remember the village that raised them. To all who sparkle, thank you.
