Alpine Meadows Ski Resort installs breakthrough chair lift safety technology for children

TAHOE CITY, Calif. and#8212; Alpine Meadows Ski Resort will become North Americaand#8217;s first ski resort to partner with Magnestick. Based in Chambery, France, Magnestick offers the newest technological system in ski chair lift safety.-

Magnestick has engineered an electromagnetic seat back and corresponding magnetic vest worn by children riding a chair lift. Chair lift seat backs are equipped with a magnet which holds a child wearing a Magnestick vest securely in place for the duration of the lift ride. When a child reaches the chair lift deboarding platform, the Magnestick vest is deactivated, allowing for a seamless release.

The Magnestick system will be installed to the Meadow and Subway chair lifts at Alpine Meadows. and#8220;Magnestick offers an additional element of safety to two of Alpineand#8217;s most popular chair lifts for kids,and#8221; said Kent Hoopingarner, Alpine Meadows general manager. Every child enrolled in the childrenand#8217;s ski or snowboard programs will receive a Magnestick vest for the day. If children are not enrolled in a program, parents may choose to rent a vest.-

The implementation of Magnestick aligns with Alpine Meadowsand#8217; initiative to incorporate emerging technologies intended to enhance guest experience through added safety, convenience, value or entertainment. Other recent resort improvements include implementation of the Flaik GPS tracking system, radio frequency identification (RFID) chair lift gates, the Alpine Club frequent skier program offering guests reloadable lift ticketing capabilities from home, and the Bandwagon musical snow cat entertainment system.—

Installation of the Magnestick system will begin during the fall of 2010 and will be available to guests for the 2010/2011 ski season.-
