‘American Girl:’ Truckee songwriter scores with patriotic production

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. – Local songwriter Gordon Simons is producing a patriotic song “I’m Proud to be an American Girl,” slated for the Truckee Fourth of July parade, Reno Rodeo parade and the Reno Barons half-time show Saturday, June 18.”American Girl” is the latest release by Simons and partner Lane Cameron. Their band, Simons & Cameron, previously had two songs on the “Young and the Restless.”The song features Erika Davidson on vocals and Billy Slais on sax (Slais played for Jefferson Starship and Elvin Bishop), and is a rocking, patriotic tribute to the armed services. Both the Army and Navy are providing uniformed service men for the upcoming music video, now being filmed in Truckee and Reno, Nev. The Army is considering the video for their Facebook page.Girls and young women who would like to be in the video may have their parents contact Simons at 530-386-7528. They will film at Mountain Hardware in Truckee, June 17, 6:30 p.m. Babies are also wanted!”I am conservative, patriotic and Christian,” said Simons, who dedicated the song to the Fourth of July. “Our singer Erika and I want to support our troops.” Simons added the video will be wholesome, in good taste, and will be reviewed by his pastors at Tahoe Forest and Calvary churches.Included in clips will be the TNT Cheerleading and Dance Squad, soldiers and sailors, local Tahoe Truckee girls, horses, a World War II Army Jeep complete with a GI driver.Simons & Cameron has been writing and producing music for almost a decade. Simons graduated Phi Beta Kappa from University of California, Los Angeles and Lane attended the Berklee School of Music.”I’m Proud to be an American Girl” and the music video (due out in late June) are being marketed to radio and TV outlets.
