Andrew Hill wins Rotary music contest in Tahoe City

TAHOE CITY and#8212; On Tuesday, March 15, the Rotary Club of Tahoe City hosted its eighth annual high school Music Contest at Granlibakken Resort. Six musicians from North Tahoe High School competed. Dean Nordby, the North Tahoe High Music Director, sent the talented group to the competition.

The participants included Robin Foster on clarinet, Zoe Thompson on clarinet, Travis Boerner on trombone, Andrew Hill on bass trombone, Hannah Perkins on alto saxophone, and Carly Leininger on alto saxophone. The competition resulted in a very close contest as judged by local adjudicators Randy Humphreys, Shauna Gilberti and Lena Meyer. Andrew Hill took first place honors, Travis Boerner placed second and Carly Leininger placed third. Cash prizes and plaques were awarded to the top three finishers.

Hill and Leininger, from the Tahoe City competition, will advance to the Rotary Area Contest on April 21 at Truckee Elementary School at 4 p.m. They will compete with the top finishers from the Incline Village, Nev. and Truckee Rotary competitions.

The winner of the Area Contest will advance to the Rotary District Championship in Reno on June 10. The Rotary District 5190 now encompasses 54 Rotary clubs in Northeastern California and Northern Nevada.
