Annenberg Foundation’s explore.org unveils live streaming camera at Lake Tahoe
HOMEWOOD, Calif. — Tahoe enthusiasts will now have access to live high-definition streaming footage of Lake Tahoe and Sierra Nevada peaks thanks to a new partnership between Homewood Mountain Resort, West Shore Caf & Inn, and the Annenberg Foundation’s philanthropic media organization, explore.org.The Lake Tahoe cameras are the latest addition to explore.org’s Pearls of the Planet initiative, which aims to help people deepen their connection with nature through a portfolio of live HD cameras installed around the world. In addition to the Lake Tahoe cameras, the Pearls of the Planet live cam collection features brown bears hunting salmon in Alaska, giant pandas in China, Siku the polar bear in Denmark, beluga whales and tropical fish from the Vancouver Aquarium, a service puppy cam, and many more. “The beauty of Lake Tahoe’s breathtaking landscape is an amazing sight to behold at any time of the year, and now, with the help of the West Shore Caf and Inn and Homewood Mountain Resort, people all over the world can experience it for themselves whenever they’d like,” said Charlie Annenberg Weingarten, founder of explore.org. “This is the point of all our Pearls of the Planet initiative … to make the world accessible to people everywhere so that they can once again learn to love and care for the planet which they live on.”“We are thrilled to offer the new web cameras,” said Kevin Mitchell, general manager for Homewood Mountain Resort. “It’s a great way for viewers to appreciate Lake Tahoe, one of the world’s most cherished mountain lakes, in real time. Equally poignant is our shared position on environmental stewardship with explore.org,” he added. West Shore Caf & Inn is a year-round, lakefront gathering place for Tahoe residents and visitors — offering instant access to Tahoe’s water sports and activities during summer as well as skiing and snowboarding during winter at its sister property Homewood Mountain Resort with abundant Lake Tahoe views.“Until a viewer can visit in person, the cameras offer an extraordinary look at the lake and the Sierra Nevada, as well as Tahoe’s ever-changing seasons, weather, snow depth, and beyond,” Mitchell added. The streaming camera’s location at West Shore Caf & Inn lends viewers a sense of standing directly on the shore of Lake Tahoe; while the second camera’s on-mountain location at Homewood offers a vantage point from 500 feet above the water. Both present an unobstructed view of the country’s second-deepest alpine lake and surrounding Sierra Nevada peaks in real time.
