Art Obessions Gallery & Wine Bar | Live painting demonstrations in Downtown Truckee
TRUCKEE – Acclaimed artists David Norton and David Dory will demonstrate their artistry at Art Obsessions Gallery & Wine Bar Saturday and Sunday, March 17 and 18, noon-5 p.m. David Norton will present “Painting From The Minds Eye,” – how to interpret your reference material so you won’t be a slave to it. David Dory will discuss the omnistic art style and demonstrate airbrush techniques such as friskit and freehand. David Norton uses his illustration techniques to tell a story with each painting. “Winds of Change,” one of his “Chief Series” paintings, depicts an Indian chief who realizes his people’s lives are changing and their fate is being blown to the wind. Norton said, “In painting from historical subjects I like to bring to light the harsh realities and injustices which tend to be ‘sugar coated’ in society today.”Norton has a deeply rooted American lineage with both Native American and American Revolutionary War military relations, which personally connect him to his work. He searches for the truth of his heritage through his paintings.David Dory in an omnistic painter who incorporates the styles of surrealism, cubism, abstract, figure study, landscape and art d’illusion d’optique into a single painting. The majority of his paintings depict a cubist or abstract landscape but as you look deeper other images emerge. “When people look at my work they come to realize that there is more to life than what we see at first glance. I want to re-train people to think differently about everything they see,” said Dory. His latest painting, “Easy Air,” is a mountain scene where a cloud is transformed into a snowboarder. However, he leaves the door open for much more if you look deep enough. Wine and appetizers will be served to compliment your art experience. Art Obsessions Gallery & Wine Bar is located in Historic Downtown Truckee, 10052 Donner Pass Road. Gallery hours are Sunday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Visit http://www.artobsessions.com or call 530-550-9688 for information.
