The Bay City, Mich., woman’s family was always involved in some kind of creative endeavor. Her father was a teacher and an artist, so they traveled every summer taking photographs of places they visited. andamp;#8220;My father believed in creativity, banning coloring books and instead I was given huge sheets of paper, paints, etc. and my father said, andamp;#8216;Make your marks Michelle!’ I have been doing so since then, painting my beloved travels and hiking trips across the USA,andamp;#8221; said Courier.Michelle visits the Truckee-Tahoe area each year hiking and gathering images and memories to paint, then returns to her Michigan studio where she paints from her photographs. She will introduce some of her latest works that include paintings of Horsetail Falls, Echo Lake, Lily Lake and Glen Alpine Falls while visiting the gallery for the Fourth of July holiday.Courier is known for her bold and colorful brushstrokes, she considers herself a realist and impressionistic painter. Bouncing between the two, she loves to create visible brushstrokes and textures that allow two unique ways to enjoy the fruits of her labor. Up close, these paintings take on an impressionistic quality, and from a distance they appear to be almost photo realistic.andamp;#8220;The process of converting a photograph to a painting goes far beyond tracing the lines of an image,andamp;#8221; Courier said. andamp;#8220;It is capturing the essence of that place that makes it a work of art.andamp;#8221;Wine and appetizers will be served to compliment your art experience.
