Auburn Ski Club Training Center: Announcing new Alpine Jr. race programs at Boreal Mountain Resort

SODA SPRINGS/BOREAL and#8212; The Auburn Ski Club Training Center located at Boreal Mountain Resort added three new programs to its extensive offerings of multi-discipline programs. With Boreal now open for 2010-11, program sign-ups are under way at or call 530-426-3313.

Twilight Gates

The new and#8220;Twilight Gatesand#8221; is a standalone mid-week gate training program open to all Far West and high school junior racers from the region. The goal of the program is to provide quality, intense gate workouts under the lights in the ASC race arena, 4-6:30 p.m. and allows athletes to complete a full school day, jump right into gate training and be home early. Auburn Ski Cluband#8217;s race arena at Boreal with night lighting, snowmaking and hill watering is the best after-school training venue in the region. The ASC coaching staff will organize the sessions and set Slalom and Giant Slalom courses. Training schedule begins when snow cover allows and will be every Wednesday/Thursday night, excluding holiday periods and continues through March. Some Friday sessions will be added for weather make-up days. Cost of the program is $575 (all ages) and includes a Boreal night pass.

D for development

Also new this season the and#8220;Mini-Devo Teamand#8221; an after-school team for young up-and-coming skiers ages 6 to 10. The Mini-Dand#8217;s will be geared toward providing a fun experience under the lights at Boreal in a team environment. Youths in this program will be and#8220;free rangingand#8221; on the mountain, playing in the terrain parks, building skiing skills, free-skiing, being introduced to gates and having fun. ASC coaching staff will emphasize building block skills, safety and making the most out of the mountain playground. Training sessions begin Jan. 5 to Mar. 31, every Wednesday and Thursday night, 4-6:30 p.m. Cost of the program is $475 and includes a Boreal full season pass.

All-Mountain Devo Team

The and#8220;All-Mountain Devo Teamand#8221; is a weekend team geared toward junior skiers wanting to experience all the sport has to offer. By combining terrain parks, half-pipes, skier-cross, traditional gate racing and free-skiing Jr. skiers can find a passion for their favorite discipline. ASC coaches will emphasize personal goal setting, core skiing skills and building confidence to ski everywhere on the mountain. Team members will also learn the basics of mountain safety and avalanche awareness. Athletes can apply their skills to Tahoe League races as well as Freeride and terrain contests.

The All-Mt. Devo 1 team is one weekend day a week, cost is $775 for age 12 and under, $875 for ages 13 and up, both include a Boreal full season pass. The All-Mt. 2 program is a Saturday/Sunday/holiday program with Boreal and Alpine Meadows passes costing $1,320 for age 12 and under and $1,520 for age 13-16.
