Be a Truckee mermaid andamp;#8230; or merman
TRUCKEE andamp;#8212; My sister, Cyndi and I are teaching a synchronized swimming class through the Truckee Donner Recreation andamp; Park District (TDRPD), culminating in Truckeeandamp;#8217;s First Aquacade. The class begins on Sept. 13, and runs for 10 weeks, two classes a week, Monday and Wednesday, 7:30-9 p.m. Our idea in starting this class is to get people together who want to have fun and exercise too. Feel free to drop by the first class to see what itandamp;#8217;s all about. Cyndi and I did synchronized swimming in our teens and coached for a local recreation department in Sacramento. We have not done any synchro since, so we bring our memories and talents of yesteryear, along with our much older bodies.I mention this because we want to encourage women our age to participate. Some friends have expressed concern that they donandamp;#8217;t look good in a bathing suit or with wet hair, but this class is about feeling good about who you are right now. We should all be proud of who and what we are and that includes our bodies. So no excuses.Of course, all ages, young and old (18 and over), are encouraged and welcome: Men too, we donandamp;#8217;t discriminate. You only need basic swimming skills and a desire to have fun and meet new people. We will not ask anyone to do anything they are not comfortable with and do not expect perfection. Remember, we only expect fun and a little exercise too!At the end of the 10 weeks, the class will culminate with an Aquacade on Nov. 20. The show will be a benefit, donation at the door, for the American Cancer Society. We have chosen this organization for our first Truckee Aquacade in memory of our Dad who died from cancer four years ago and in honor of the many friends and family who we have watched bravely fight cancer. We need at least 12 people to sign up for the class (required by the recreation department). We have a lot of interest in the Aquacade, but need the swimmers for class. Participants have to do less with more people involved. Weandamp;#8217;ve been searching out fun music and appreciate input for new routines. Please join us and help make this happen! If we donandamp;#8217;t get enough people, we donandamp;#8217;t do the class, hence no benefit Aquacade. If we can make it a success, we can make it an annual event to benefit different organizations. There is a class fee of $100, thatandamp;#8217;s only $5 per class (what a deal!) and a material fee of $15 to cover the costs of nose clip, props, music, etc.Contact me at 587-4793 or email@example.com. You can check out the Fall Brochure for Truckee Donner Recreation andamp; Park District, with our class in it, a http://www.tdrpd.com/Brochure/2010-2011%20FALL%20FINAL%20Color.pdf. Sign-ups are through the TDRPD, at 582-7720.Hope to see all you mermaids and mermen there. Happy times!andamp;#8212; Submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org
