TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County and North Lake Tahoe is preparing to celebrate five years of mentoring in the Tahoe-Truckee area with an out-of-this-world bowl-a-thon and party Oct. 13, 2012.

Bowl Incline will be transformed into Area 51 as the Incline Village bowling alley plays host to the 3rd annual Bowl For Kids’ Sake: Galaxy Bowl party/fundraiser from 3-8 p.m.

Community members are encouraged to gather a team of three to five people along with intergalactic costumes, face paint and any alien technology they can find lying around the house, then join in the fun as local emcee-extraordinaire Jim Simon, of the Porter-Simon Law Firm, entertains the crowd while community members compete to knock down the most pins and raise the most dollars.

Radio personalities from KTKE 101.5 FM will be in the alley, providing a space-aged soundtrack to celebrate Big Brothers Big Sisters’ official five-year anniversary of opening their Tahoe-Truckee office.

“Our Bowl For Kids’ Sake party is the perfect way to celebrate our five-year anniversary in this area,” said Truckee Program Manager Peggy Martin. “I really look forward to being able to thank many of the community members who’ve supported us over the years – especially our dedicated Big Brothers and Big Sisters – and hopefully to reach out to some new friends who want to help us continue our mission of providing caring adult mentors to local at-risk youth.”

Form your own team and sign up to raise funds for the programs Big Brothers Big Sisters makes possible. Even better, put your team together and then challenge another business, service club or group of friends to see who can raise the most money and have the most fun on Oct. 13.

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County and North Lake Tahoe (BBBSNC) is a chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, a national nonprofit agency dedicated to creating a volunteer base where every at-risk child and youth who needs and wants a mentor can be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister. BBBSNC serves children in all of Nevada County including Truckee, as well as the North Lake Tahoe communities of Kings Beach and Tahoe City.

In October of 2007, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County (established in 1981) opened its Truckee office and began matching at-risk youth one-on-one with caring adult mentors in the Truckee and North Lake Tahoe area. Since that date the agency has served a total of 108 children. Currently there are approximately 16 local children in the Tahoe-Truckee region on the waiting list for a mentor and the agency must raise $1,200 to make and support each match. Funding raised at the Bowl For Kids’ Sake: Galaxy Bowl bowl-a-thon will go directly to supporting the matches they already have, and funding new relationships for waiting Littles.
