Calling artists and sponsors for and#8216;Chalk Tahoeand#8217;
TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The cobblestone streets of the Northstar Village will become canvases for critically acclaimed artists Labor Day weekend for the first-time event and#8212; Chalk Tahoe. Chalk Tahoe is a free event open to the public Aug. 31 to Sept. 3, 2012.
San Francisco-based artist Jay Mercado will be featured as the title artist. Mercado is known for his dramatic and realistic paintings, showcasing the beauty of natural objects and paying homage to his familyand#8217;s agricultural history. While Mercado usually uses oil to create his artwork, chalk will become his medium for Chalk Tahoe. Mercado has participated in the Santa Barbara Chalk Festival for 10 years. The Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, the nonprofit behind the event, is proud to have such a talent on board.

Mercado will be joined by the gifted hands of five presenting artists and countless other creative participants. Aimee Had and Wes Lee are the first confirmed presenting artists for Chalk Tahoe. Had is a Truckee resident. Her whimsical images are popular with art lovers and animal lovers alike. Had has the unique ability to capture the intimate personality of her subject matter whether it is her canine companions or a unique natural landscape. Like Mercado, Had will trade in her trusty oil paints for chalk.
Wes Lee is a Reno, Nev. native and passionate about the arts. Leeand#8217;s sensuous and captivating images study the beauty of the human form with complexity and drama. Lee has participated in other chalk festivals and will surely make something truly magnificent out of Northstarand#8217;s cobblestone corridors.
Artists at Chalk Tahoe will fill every possible corner of the Northstar Village with art, turning it into an open-air gallery. Even children have the opportunity to express their artistic side with 2 x 2-foot childrenand#8217;s squares. and#8220;The Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and Chalk Tahoe invite artists of all levels to participate in the event,and#8221; said Event Producer Scott Corridan. and#8220;The childrenand#8217;s squares are a great way to get involved with the event. Kids can let their creative juices flow right next to professional artists.and#8221;
Childrenand#8217;s squares can be purchased for $50 per square.
Chalk Tahoe is currently seeking sponsorship for the artist squares starting with the title sponsor for $15,000; presenting sponsor $5,000; gold sponsor $1,000; silver sponsor $500; and bronze sponsorship for $250.
