Celebrity baggers at Safeway’s Truckee

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Truckee Safeway’s and#8220;Celebrity Baggerand#8221; event featured Mayor Carolyn Wallace Dee and local celebrities to support Safeway’s annual Prostate Cancer Awareness campaign Thursday, June 3. Celebrities bagged groceries to raise donations. Since 2001, the company and its customers have raised more than $54 million to fund Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) cancer research. Safeway’s annual campaign has played a key role in significantly raising awareness and funding for research and#8212; two factors that have helped reduce the prostate cancer mortality rate.

Celebrities included Mayor Carolyn Wallace Dee; Lindsay Romack, DJ, 101.5 KTKE; Officer Jeff Safford of the Truckee Police Department; Chris Banovich, chef/owner, North Tahoe Catering; Billy McCullough, chef/owner, Dragonfly and Jim Hood, vice president, Truckee Donner Railroad Society. Smokey the Bear was also on site.

Shoppers may also make a donation to the Prostate Cancer Foundation at 11290 Donner Pass Road, Truckee.
