Check out Sierra College Dean’s Lecture Series: Experts andamp; Insights

Activeandamp;#8211;minded adults are filling the classroom at Sierra College one evening each month to learn something new (or old!) from local professors. The aptly named Experts andamp; Insights program features research-based lectures, dramatic presentations, slide shows, discussion and academic perspectives on an array of subjects and issues. Recent topics range from The Psychology of Humor to Understanding Afghanistan. Kimberly Bateman, Dean of Sierra College, Tahoe-Truckee campus, says andamp;#8220;I enjoy the richness of having a wide range of topics for our series … I like that it is reflective of the general education curriculum and draws in people who are interested in many things.andamp;#8221;The next few months offer an interactive Chautauqua presentation, Horace Greeley and Abraham Lincoln, an annotated slide show on Reflections of Ancient Women in the Modern World and a biologic overview titled DNA, Chromosomes, Stem Cells and You. Later in 2010 Experts andamp; Insights will bring an examination of leadership in transitioning nations, a report on the economy, a visual assessment of memorial art at Burning Man, a mythical guide to death and grieving, and a peek at the importance and consequences of photosynthesis. Experts andamp; Insights meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second Friday of each month and is offered at no charge, thanks to the generosity of the faculty and Sierra College. Many students arrive early to enjoy socializing over a complimentary cup of coffee and because they know that seats fill quickly for this popular program. andamp;#8220;The response to our program has been both overwhelming and very gratifying,andamp;#8221; says Bateman. andamp;#8220;It shows there is a considerable demand for lifelong learning in our community.andamp;#8221;David Fenimore will take on the character of Horace Greeley, Friday, March 5, 7:30 p.m., Sierra College Lobby (please arrive early to secure a seat!).
