Children react to attacks

Jeff Clemetson, Sierra Sun

Dalton Stevens celebrated his eighth birthday by writing a letter to President Bush.

On Sept. 11, as he put up with his special day being overshadowed by terrorist attacks, Stevens wrote, “How long can you put up with this?”

The letters were written in Lynn Akers’ third grade class at Glenshire Elementary. Akers said the letter campaign gave her students something positive to do to deal with the nation’s tragedy.

Erica Lorusson’s letter mentioned her Uncle Bill, who worked in the World Trade Center.

Kiersten Ridsel wrote, “I am sorry for the families who have someone injured or killed. It is an absolute disaster.”

And Shawna Brouwers asked the question, “Is there going to be a WWIII?”

In Joanne Haddy’s third grade class, students drew pictures and wrote words of kindness to send to Bellevue Hospital in New York. The pictures will decorate patients’ rooms there.
