Choices Transitional Services to hold open house today
TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Choice Transitional services, a day program for adults with disabilities will hold an open house for the community today, Jan. 6, from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at 11025 Pioneer Trail, Ste. 102 in Truckee.
The day program is threatened by state and other budget cuts, and was scheduled to close Nov. 2011. Choices is now slated to remain open until June 11, after an assertive letter-writing campaign conducted by Choices clients.
and#8220;Some of the community might not be aware this demographic exists,and#8221; said Sophie Moeller, instructor and community outreach coordinator. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend the open house potluck, with dancing, food and fun. Choices clients were instrumental in organizing the party.
Through Choices, clients are able to attend Zumba and ceramics classes, volunteer four times a week with the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe, twice weekly with the Sierra High STEPP program, swim at the community pool, among additional activities.
