Community Christmas organization

Staff Reports

Truckee’s a winter wonderland at Christmas time, but it can be a cold, hard part of the year for families in need. You can make sure that doesn’t happen.

Show the spirit of giving this Christmas season by participating in some of the many donation drives planned by community groups.

Under the umbrella of the Community Christmas organization, many groups are collecting food, clothing, toys and other items to distribute to the less fortunate in the Truckee area.

The Adopt-a-Family program, which began last week, needs sponsors to provide Christmas dinners and gifts/toys for the children of 50 families selected by local agencies.

Toy barrels around Truckee offer a chance to donate new, unwrapped toys to brighten Christmas for children of our area.

The Adopt-a-Senior program provides a wish-list of items needed by senior citizens in our area.

Clean, warm coats are being collected by the Church of the Mountains.

The Tahoe Sierra Board of Realtors is collecting non-perishable food items.

The food gift certificate program offers an opportunity to aid families through donations which will be applied toward food purchases.

The Truckee office of Prudential California Realty is a designated drop-off point for donated toys in the Toys for Tots/Ho Ho Homewood program.

The California Highway Patrol is collecting new, unwrapped toys at its Truckee office and at the Donner Pass Inspection Facility on Interstate 80.

Join with community and service organizations in the Truckee area to see that all our residents have a warm, safe and happy Christmas.
