Community report: Tahoe Women’s Services offers information for holiday giving programs in North Lake Tahoe
TAHOE/TRUCKEE – There are three major holiday programs in the North Shore every year: The Holiday Hope Program, Toys for Tots and the Food and Coat Drive. Any one of these programs would love to gain your support or even help you!
The Holiday Hope Program is open to clients of Tahoe Women’s Services (TWS) and community members working with the North Tahoe Family Resource Center (NTFRC). Individuals and families in need provide a wish list and are then paired with generous donors who purchase and wrap the gifts. The gifts are distributed to the families by Dec. 17.
Interested in becoming a donor? Contact Cecelia or Jessica at TWS at 530-546-7804 or AnaLiz at NTFRC 530-546-0952 by Nov. 15. We strongly encourage you abide by this deadline so gifts can be collected in time for the holidays. If you are a client of either organization, contact them for more information.
Toys for Tots is being spearheaded by Coldwell Banker in Tahoe City this year. Toy collection sites will be set up all over the North Shore between Nov. 29 and Dec. 15. Cash donations are also accepted. Please contact Elaine Durazo at 530-583-5581 for donation options and collection sites.
In addition, if you would like to volunteer with Toys for Tots, please call AnaLiz at 530-546-0952. Assistance is needed in filling out applications with families, as well as organizing and giving out toys on distribution day: Dec. 19.
Families needing assistance from Toys for Tots are encouraged to apply at their child’s school. Children 0-18 years old are eligible for presents. New this year is a toy distribution site on the West Shore. Not only will there be a toy distribution site at the NTFRC, but also one at the Rideout Community Center.
The annual Food and Coat Drive led by the North Tahoe Hebrew Congregations back. They will be collecting warm clothing, gently used books, and non-perishable food. The deadline for collecting items is Dec. 12. Distribution day will be on Dec. 18 at the North Tahoe Conference Center. Please contact Norman at 530-546-0895 for information on how to donate or apply.
