Contractors Association of Truckee Tahoe offers potential solution for soaring worker’s comp rates

Special to the Sun

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. – The Contractors Association of Truckee Tahoe (CATT) invites construction industry or related profession individuals to a public meeting explaining CATT’s solution to soaring California workers’ compensation insurance rates. The meeting is Thursday, March 14, 4 p.m. at the Larkspur Hotel Truckee Tahoe, 11331 Brockway Road, Truckee.

The presentation will cover the benefits of a “self-insured” plan as envisioned by CATT. Insurance representatives will answer questions. Self Insured Groups (SIGs) are a cost effective, comprehensive method of minimizing losses and reducing costs of workers’ compensation claims. When it comes to protecting a business and employees for workers’ compensation, self insured groups continue to stand out as the most cost effective and sound solution.

Currently there are 27 active SIGs in California covering a wide range of industries including: auto dealers, transportation, manufacturing, golf courses, health and social services, restaurants, and more.

A well maintained and strong self-insured group gives employers the advantage of lower, long term and stable rates. Being in a self insured group provides flexibility and gives the members a voice in the program. Self-insured groups include strict underwriting guidelines, strong risk management, loss control, comprehensive safety services with claims oversight and aggressive claims handling.
