Mark Brown has always found ways to be involved in the issues that interest and affect him.
Living in Irvine, Brown raised his disabled daughter as a single parent, and joined the Irvine Residents with Disabilities Committee to take part in the issues that affected his daughter.
“It’s something I’ve always done ” if there is something I believe in I ask ‘How can I make it better?'” Brown said.
He also says he likes to get a first-hand perspective on all the issues he faces.
“When there is a parcel of land on a town council agenda, I go out and drive the site,” Brown said. “When we were talking about the trail between Cottonwood and Highway 89 with all the archeological sites, I walked the whole site.”
Once his children grew up and moved away, Brown moved to Truckee to be close to his family in Reno, where he grew up.
He runs two businesses in town ” he has been a chiropractor for 25 years, and runs a drug and alcohol testing business for local organizations and employers.
“It’s funny, if you pass somebody, the company says ‘Thank you,’ and if you fail somebody, the company says ‘Thank you,'” Brown said.
Brown said the public involvement at town council meetings has been one of the rewarding parts of the job.
“During the Legacy Trail debate it was great to see the turnout, and I was amazed at how polite they all were. I thought that was great,” Brown said.
Brown, who recently joined the Firesafe Council of Nevada County, said he hopes during his time in office to see significant research into fire issues in the community, and significant reductions to any threats.
Outside of work and his role in the town, he said he likes to get out on his motorcycle or four-wheel-drive to explore the mountains.
