Disabled Sports US Far West hosts three-day water play at Donner Lake

Participants and leaders cruise into South Shore Beach at Donner Lake during the Disabled Sports USA Far West Sierra Summer sports event July 30.

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; A three-day Disabled Sports Far West event was chock full of sailing, canoeing, kayaking, tubing and dining at Donner Lake. Dave Ceruti, owner of Donner Lake Water Sports, donated two Sea-Doos for the event, as he has in past years. Donner Lake Water Sports also offers patio, fishing and ski boats, kayaks and pedal boats (530-582-1999). Another generous donor is Dave Shalvis, a Truckee family man who donates his ski boat for tubing. The three-day lake event is “a chance for able-bodied family and friends, everybody, to get out on the lake and play” according to Disabled Sports program director Cindy Smith. Thirty-six participants with physical or cognitive disabilities, local and from the Bay Area, went out to play.
