Disabled Sports USA Far West | Sierra summer sports held at Donner Lake

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; You probably know Disabled Sports USA Far West for its adaptive ski school at Alpine Meadows. But did you know Disabled Sports provides more than 25 days of adaptive summer sport programs like water skiing, kayaking, whitewater rafting and 4WD backcountry adventures? Theyand#8217;ve been providing these winter and summer adaptive sports since 1967.

On July 27 and 28, 20 Disabled Sports USA Far West volunteers from the Truckee/Tahoe area donated their time, resources and expertise to make the Disabled Sports USA Far West Donner Lake Water Sports Day a great experience for people of all abilities.

Eighteen-20 adults and children with disabilities and their family members went sailing, jet skiing, tubing and paddling thanks to Disabled Sports USA Far West and their generous volunteers.



Participants had disabilities such as: Autism, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spinal cord injuries and amputations.

Disabled Sports thanks all of the volunteers who helped make this Disabled Sports USA Far West summer program possible, and especially the following volunteers who donated their equipment and expertise in addition to donating their time:




and#8226; Rob Nishimura, 530-582-1999, Donner Lake Marina and Watersports, donated two full-day jet ski rentals.

and#8226; Eric Roberts, 775-846-3538, Sierra Nevada Community Sailing, donated two full-day accessible sailboat dingy rentals.

and#8226; Keith Jahola, 530-582-9593, Kawaiulu and#8217;o Tahoe Outrigger Canoe Club located at Donner Lake, Truckee. Six volunteers from the club brought two outrigger canoes and gave paddle lessons on Friday and Saturday.

and#8226; Dave Shalvis and family, brought their ski boat and took participants tubing on Friday and Saturday.
