Donner Lake Rim Trail volunteers wanted

The Truckee Donner Land Trust is gearing up for another summer of trail work and maintenance on the 22-mile Donner Lake Rim Trail.

Upon completion, the Donner Lake Rim Trail will circle the ridges above Donner Lake and make available 22 miles of hiking, biking and equestrian access.

Planning and building the Rim Trail is an all-volunteer effort. The Land Trust is seeking to schedule individuals and groups who would like to volunteer for trail building work over the summer months. No prior experience is necessary.

This summer’s scheduled work days so far are June 23-24; July 7-8, July 21-22, and August 11-12. Other dates are available if groups or individuals arrange them with the Land Trust by June 1.

A typical trail building day begins at 8:30 a.m., and consists of a brief tool safety and orientation and trail construction briefing, working on the trail for two hours, a one hour lunch break and afternoon work of one to two hours.

Tasks include using Macbuds to clear pine duff, outsloping the trail for water runoff, clearing brush and stones, moving boulders, meeting other volunteers and providing a legacy of outdoor recreation for generations to come. Volunteers are typically returned to their vehicles by 3:30 p.m.

Please call the Land Trust to sign up for any scheduled work day, or to make arrangements for an additional group call (530) 582-4711. The Land Trust will send volunteers a confirmation letter with additional information.
