Dressing up the chorus stars for ‘Classically Christmas’ performance in Olympic Valley

If Hollywood can do it, why not Truckee? In the world of glitz and glamour, it’s customary for designers to dress the stars for big events. In Truckee, the concert performances by the Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus of Sierra College are being outfitted by local retailers. With two seasonal concerts per year, the Chorus packs in an audience of more than 250 people per show. Dressing the stars has become a tradition, giving the local merchants an opportunity to showcase their clothing and accessories.

Lisa Shaffer, a manager at the Pharmacy in Downtown Truckee will dress up Susan K. Horst, a TTCC director. Soprano soloist and publicity director Trudy Vella and Horst will enjoy a second season of playing dress up. “We are fortunate to have the Pharmacy dressing the soloist and director. We also thank Cabona’s and Jackass Ridge for providing the beautiful jewelry and accessories for the women and Donna’s Stitchery for dressing our male soloists and directors in handsome tuxedos. We feel like divas when we walk out on stage, wearing the type of clothes that only Hollywood wears and here we are in Truckee, getting dressed up like the stars!” said Vella.

The Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus of Sierra College, directed by Susan K. Horst, Chris Nelson and Tom Acord, presents “Classically Christmas” at the Resort at Squaw Creek on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 13 at 4 p.m. The concert will usher in the holiday season with light holiday classics, an audience sing along, and joyous classic literature. The chorus and strings will feature Mozart’s Solemn Vespers and selections from Handel’s Messiah.

General admission is $11, preferred seats are $20 and children and students are free. Six Peaks Grille and Sandy’s Pub at the Resort at Squaw Creek will be offering a 20 percent discount on their regular menu with proof of tickets. Advanced tickets are recommended!
