Duck race competition Saturday

The Truckee Sunrise Rotary Club’s 9th Annual Duck Races will be held this Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Truckee Regional Park on Brockway Road (Old Highway 267) south of downtown.

High on the swiftly flowing Truckee River, thousands of little plastic ducks will gather to see which is the fastest hurtling down a fast-moving, rapids-choked racecourse.

The winner not only brings glory to him- or herself, but a grand prize of $4,000 to the person lucky enough to have adopted it.

Duck racing fans from all over the Truckee area will gather to witness this momentous event and to cheer on their adopted ducks.

In addition to the duck races, there will be Sponsor Duck judging, a free carnival with games and face painting for the children, food and drinks for everyone and a DJ.

Admission is free

Club Treasurer George Williams said last year’s Duck Races benefited community projects such as The Truckee Sunrise Rotary Angel Network and Project Graduation with nearly $11,000 in scholarships and exchange student support of more than $4,000, local sports and recreation with more than $2,500 and community organizations such as Truckee River Habitat Restoration, Truckee Donner Land Trust and Project MANA with nearly $3,000.

Sponsor Ducks for $100 and individual racing ducks for $5 or five for $20 may be adopted from any Truckee Sunrise Rotary Club member. Look for them around the community. Call Craig Meyer at 587-4189 or Kathy Bender at 587-4677 for tickets and information.

The Truckee Sunrise Rotary Club is part of Rotary International, an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide, that provides humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

There are approximately 1.2 million Rotarians, members of more than 29,000 Rotary clubs in 161 countries.
