Early Learning Classes and events at Family Resource Center of Truckee

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The Family Resource Center of Truckee presents its exciting roster of fall classes and events for early learners, children birth to 5-year-olds and their parents. Your Amazing Baby, Infant Bonding and Massage

Series begins Tuesday, Sept. 20, 11 a .m.-12:15 p.m. at the FRC. This six-week series is geared for parents/caregivers and infants, generally aged between birth and 3 months old. Learn infant massage techniques and deepen your bond with your baby. Massage helps your baby with digestion and improves sleep and immune function. You will learn to understand infant cues, infant crying and learn to relax with your baby. The series is facilitated by Gia Mandy-White, certified infant massage and bay yoga instructor. The cost is $72 and scholarships are available.



Baby and Me

Series begins Friday, Sept. 16, 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. at the FRC. Join these fun and educational classes for parents and non-ambulatory infants general aged 3 months to crawling/walking. Activities include music and play, education on health and child development, guest speakers and informal discussion, a six-week series for infants. The facilitator is Cindy Bansen, R.N., IBCLC, lactation consultant. The cost is $72 with scholarships available.



Loving Solutions Parenting Series

Classes begin Wednesday, Oct. 5, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the FRC. This seven-week, research-based, parenting series is geared for parents of children 4 to 10-year-olds. Join the series for education and tips that will help you build parenting skills through easy techniques. Utilizing a workbook format, group interaction and home activities for, parents will be able to start using tools at home after the first session! Susan Bower, M.A, will facilitate the series. The series is $125, with workbook and class materials included. Scholarships are available.

Family Music with Todd Wees

Two series of six classes are being offered: Thursday afternoons, 4:45-5:30 p.m., beginning Oct. 13 and Saturday mornings 10-10:45 a.m., beginning Oct. 15.

Join local troubadour, Todd Wees, for the popular Todd Wees music experience. You and your birth to 5-year-old children will enjoy high-spirited sing and dance-along music. The series costs $72 for the whole family and scholarships are available.

Play and Learn in The Family Room at Truckee Elementary

Beginning Monday, Sept. 19. Open Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m.-noon. Find community resource information, and visit and play with friends. From 10:30-11:15 a.m. each morning, enjoy structured activities including arts and crafts, stories, developmental play and music. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays join Martha Cerna, 10:30-11:15 a.m. puppets, songs and games in Spanish and English.

Toddler Gym-Time

Thursdays, 10-11:30 a.m. in the Big Gym in the TTUSD District Office. Classes begin with start of cold weather-date to be announced. Gym-Time is a free, weekly, drop-in opportunity for socialization and active play with developmental toys and equipment for ambulatory toddlers ages 1 to 3-years-old and their parents/caregivers.

Parenting Book Discussion Group

Start date to be announced. You are invited to join community parents with children birth to 5-year-old for this free, monthly group. Parents select the books and meet to discuss current writing, thinking, research, and shared experience to acquire inspiration, increase knowledge and gain new parenting tools. These meetings are parent-driven and free of charge.

Family events

Family Fun Nights at Truckee Elementary, kickoff is Friday, Sept. 30, 5:30-7 p.m. Join community families and children, birth through fifth grade for a delicious, free, family dinner, entertainment and family activities.

Dia de los Muertos and#8212; Day of the Dead

Nov. 4, 2011. Mark your calendar for this annual community cultural celebration, featuring delicious Mexican food, Ballet Folklorico, cultural presentations, music, dancing and an exciting raffle. There will be lots of fun games, crafts and music for the children.
