Eighth Annual Downtown Truckee Wine, Walk andamp; Shop announces nonprofit beneficiary

TRUCKEE, Calif. andamp;#8212; The eighth annual Downtown Truckee Wine, Walk andamp; Shop steering committee named Girls on the Run-Sierras as this yearandamp;#8217;s nonprofit beneficiary.Girls on the Run-Sierras provides life-changing, experiential learning programs for girls ages 8 to 13-years-old in the Tahoe-Truckee community. The programs combine training for a 3.1-mile running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The goals of the programs are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development. Funds received from the Downtown Truckee Wine, Walk andamp; Shop will be used to provide scholarships to Truckee girls who may not otherwise be able to participate.andamp;#8220;There are so many worthy organizations in our community,andamp;#8221; said Brinn Talbot, president of Switchback Public Relations + Marketing and owner of the event. andamp;#8220;We really connected with the mission of Girls on the Run and feel they will make excellent partners for the 2011 event.andamp;#8221;The Downtown Truckee Wine, Walk andamp; Shop has gained momentum in each successive year, donating proceeds to local nonprofit organizations such as InnerRhythms Dance Theatre, Lake Tahoe Music Festival, Humane Society of Truckee/Tahoe, Truckee High School band program, Glenshire Elementary and Truckee Elementary Special Friends programs, Tahoe Womenandamp;#8217;s Services and Sierra Senior Services. Help support Girls on the Run by attending the eighth annual Downtown Truckee Wine, Walk andamp; Shop Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, noon andamp;#8211; 4 p.m. In addition to helping young girls, attendees will have an opportunity to shop and stroll in historic Truckee while indulging in some of the finest vintages paired with food samples from the best restaurants and caterers in the region. Tickets for the eighth annual Downtown Truckee Wine, Walk and Shop are $30 in advance ($40 day of) and are available online at http://www.TruckeeWineWalk.com. A small $3 service fee applies for online sales.
