The Truckee Donner Public Utility District desperately needs a change.
Elect Patrick Flora and re-elect Pat Sutton. These two candidates will help make the board more of an independent decision-making team. The current environment of unquestioned support of fast tracked staff recommendations ” resulting in limited public input and board analysis ” must change.
Over the past 15 to 20 years, a majority of the board has graced itself with a “thanks for your input but we know better” approach. Only in the last year has the board entertained action in opposition toward district management philosophy and direction. We, the ratepayers, desperately need a board which will challenge staff to live within a budget and not continue to increase district debt (which is now more than $60 million, not factoring in the staggering $30 million-plus broadband project).
Take time to get out and vote for individuals who will exercise their integrity and not just claim it.

Our community is at a crossroads. We need someone with proven leadership skills and a successful track record working for us. In her former role as executive director to the North Tahoe Business Association, Theresa May Duggan brought our community both the North Tahoe Main Street program and the North Lake Tahoe-Truckee Leadership Program. Experience is critical at this point, and Theresa May is the only candidate who meets these requirements.
Greetings from the southern hemisphere. The Cushman Family may be in Buenos Aires for the year but we are still reading the Sierra Sun religiously and following as many community goings ons that we can. This letter is to remind everybody about Truckee’s important upcoming school board election this November. We have the opportunity to make tremendous strides.
I am writing this letter to encourage you to vote for Bill Kraus for TTUSD school board. I have worked with Bill on both the Measure A campaign and subsequently on the Measure A CRC board. I cannot recommend a more hard working and creative person to represent us at this time. Bill has also worked tirelessly behind the scenes on Education Matters as well as on other community issues.
Bill is a very intelligent, rational, big-picture thinker and a tireless volunteer. He has no agenda other than to put the educational needs of our children first. I believe Bill will be a representative who will build bridges and strengthen relationships. He will be an activist for the benefit of the community and someone who we will all feel that we can approach with our concerns and suggestions. So much of what makes a good school system great is leadership. Vote for Bill and you will be helping the TTUSD school system take a great stride towards quality leadership. Hasta Luego
I am writing to express my strong support of Sandy Korth and Bill Quesnel for the airport board. While I am not a resident of the district, I am a local pilot and currently serve as co-chairman of the Airport Community Advisory Team (ACAT). Both Sandy and Bill have served with me on the ACAT during the past 15 months and have proven to be driving forces in the positive changes that have recently taken place at the airport. Their strong aviation knowledge coupled with their “voices of reason” have enabled all parties to sit down at the same table and work through the issues at hand. They are without a doubt the two most qualified candidates running for the airport board. Electing Sandy Korth and Bill Quesnel to the airport board will help ensure that the airport is a well-run entity benefiting the entire community.
There’s been a lot of controversy and misrepresentation regarding one of this year’s candidates for the Truckee Tahoe Airport District board. I would like to take this opportunity to set the record straight. Michael Golden is more committed to the well-being of this community and the airport than his critics would like you to believe.
For two years, Michael volunteered his time on the Airport Noise Advisory Committee where he proposed what is today the cornerstone of the airport’s noise abatement program. While air traffic is up considerably at our airport, noise complaints are down, largely as a result of Michael’s hard work and creative thinking. His voting record speaks for itself. He has voted in favor of all but a few proposed noise abatement measures brought before him on the airport board. We should respect his voting record, as he makes decisions based not on emotion, but rather on logic and good business practice.
I have personally attended, watched and listened to Michael in his capacity as an airport board director. He is equitable and balanced in his approach, as he considers all aspects of the issues brought before the board. Most importantly, Michael treats the district’s finances as well, if not better, than his own. He is fiscally conservative, and his objectives are to have the district live within its financial means. Most importantly, he’s honest, candid and direct.
These traits which Michael exhibits are exactly what we’d all like to see in someone who holds public office. I would encourage you to join myself, my family, my friends, and neighbors in voting to re-elect Michael Golden for airport district board. Finally, don’t let the last name fool you ” we’re not related.
