Excellence in Education Foundation bridges gaps

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation wishes you a healthy and productive start to the school year!

In case you are unfamiliar with The Excellence in Education Foundation, we are a nonprofit organization created to enhance public education within the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD). The Foundation raises money and provides grants, resources and unique partnerships to benefit students, teachers and the overall educational community. During the past year, the Foundation has proudly contributed more than $155,000 in grant funding to TTUSD.

TTUSD offers many wonderful educational opportunities to our students, however, with our struggling economy and ongoing cuts to state funding the Foundation is constantly working to bridge the financial gap by providing funds and resources where they are needed most.

This summer weand#8217;ve been busy working on the Tahoe Truckee Reads literacy campaign, and we are delighted to report that Tahoe/Truckee is one of 14 communities selected nationwide from a field of 124 to win the 2012 All-America City award for our plan to address grade level literacy in the region.

There are many ways that you can support the Foundationand#8217;s fundraising efforts. The easiest way is to become a and#8220;Friend of Education.and#8221; This is an annual gift/membership, starting at $35 that goes directly into the Foundationand#8217;s grant-giving fund. The membership also keeps you up to date on the Foundationand#8217;s work and programs via our newsletters and annual reports.

You may also purchase a Dining for Schools card. On sale Sept. 1, cards are $50 each and entitle the bearer to 50 percent off an entree at 40 participating restaurants during designated times. Itand#8217;s a great way to sample the fabulous restaurants in the area and support local public education. Cards are available at all Porters Sports, Safeway (Truckee, Kings Beach), Mountain Hardware, Save Mart and online at http://www.ExinEd.org.

Yet another way to get involved is to help recognize some of the teachers, staff and supporters of our school district. On Thursday, Oct. 11 the Excellence in Education will hold our annual recognition event to celebrate our 25 years of supporting education. The evening will also honor local educators with the Linda Brown Fellows and Star award presentations as well as acknowledge our many donors. The Foundation would like to thank Wells Fargo Home Mortgage Truckee Office for generously sponsoring this yearand#8217;s event. Donand#8217;t miss the fun! Please call 530-550-7984 for more information.
