Excellence in Education funds grants for 2009/2010 School Year

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation recently announced $35,082 in funding to Tahoe Truckee Unified School District through its spring grant cycle, which totals $200,237 in grant funding for the 2009/2010 school year.

Excellence in Education, an organization created to enhance public education within the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD), provides funding to TTUSD through grant cycles during the school year.

Grants funded in the spring grant cycle include a and#8220;Vision and Spectroscopyand#8221; grant from Truckee High School to help students understand the optics of the eye. Another grant was approved to augment the science lab equipment at North Tahoe High School, allowing for more labs and demonstrations in the science curriculum. At Tahoe Lake Elementary, new Language Arts resources were approved as well as cross-country ski equipment for the Physical Education department. And Kings Beach Elementaryand#8217;s approved grants included school listening centers and Spanish literature to boost literacy through leveled reading. The primary fundraising programs that support the Foundation include Skiing, Dining and Golfing for Schools, Friends of Education memberships, TTUSD employee payroll deductions and the new Home Tour and#8212; scheduled this year for Aug. 7 in Martis Camp.
