Experts & Insights: The Global Warming Controversy Unmasked

Special to the Sun

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. – A recent Pew Center poll shows American “belief” in the idea of Anthropogenic Global Warming steadily eroding. Why are public perceptions changing? Derek Larson will speak at the Friday, Oct. 14, 7:30 p.m. Experts & Insights at Sierra College, Truckee. He is a part-time professor of biology at Sierra College. This presentation will dissect the arguments for and against human caused climate change and the degree to which it is considered a “crisis.” Look at evidence presented by climatologists and consider popularly cited alternate explanations. Examine cultural perspectives that predispose us to leaning more toward one side or the other. Please bring your cell phone so you may participate in audience polls. After the presentation, there will be time for questions, discussion, and perhaps some lively debate! We all know this can be an acrimonious subject. Bring an open mind and a constructive attitude. Presenter Derek Larson has been an instructor of biology and environmental science at Sierra College since 2000. In graduate school at Stanford University, he studied earth systems under several paleoclimatologists before the idea of global warming came into public consciousness. As his students will attest, Larson always likes to examine the process of science and the history of human thought patterns underlying all subjects he covers. No charge. Space is limited so please reserve up to four seats by calling 530-550-2290.- Submitted to aedgett@sierrasun.com
