TRUCKEE, Calif. – World-renowned modern artist Guillaume Azoulay will showcase his artistry at Art Obsessions Gallery & Wine Bar Friday, Feb. 15 and Sunday, Feb. 17 during gallery hours. Azoulay will also be in the gallery Feb. 16, 7-9 p.m.A major collection of Azoulay originals and limited edition works will be on display for this special event and throughout the month of February. This is a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to meet a modern master – one of the youngest artists accepted into the prestigious archives of the Cabinet des Dessins of the Louvre Museum.Guillaume Azoulay was born in Casablanca, Morocco in 1949. Since age 13, his thirst for adventure has taken him to many parts of the world, earning his way by painting and performing as an actor. Azoulay met his wife Charmine Seal, noted Welsh ballerina, in Israel. In 1976 they arrived in the United States. By this time, Azoulay had achieved international recognition and become one of the most popular American etchers. In 1983, Azoulay was chosen to create the official Kentucky Derby Festival Poster. He was challenged by the thought of creating images that combined his love of horses with the excitement of the world’s greatest horse races. His series of etchings capture the spirit and vitality of racing’s important competitions: Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and the Belmont. The beauty of Azoulay’s art centers on his amazing line-work that he weaves to create images of fluid motion and life. It is through his organic line construction that Azoulay creates balance, harmony, contrast, and the illusion of depth and movement in each one of his compositions. Azoulay said, “Abstraction is the flight, not the bird.” His works express an explosion of energy and force, a dissection of shape and function that transforms each subject into a multitude of lines drawn with atomic precision. In honor of the “Year of the Dragon” Azoulay created one of his latest pieces “Le Dragon D’Or” which in English is translated “The Golden Dragon.” This magnificent image has recently been used as the cover to the 2013 edition of the “Printworld Directory” – the source book for contemporary prints, which will be on display at Art Obsessions for this event.Enjoy a glass of wine to compliment your art experience at Art Obsessions Gallery & Wine Bar, located in historic downtown Truckee, 10052 Donner Pass Road.
