Float some ducks, win some bucks at the Truckee Duckee Derbee

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The and#8220;most unpredictable two minutes in Tahoe,and#8221; the 8th Annual Truckee Duckee Derbee is set for June 12 at the River Ranch Lodge. The rubber duck race is a benefit for the Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe and the afternoonand#8217;s festivities include the featured duck race, live music on the outdoor patio, a barbecue, drink and food specials, a fabulous raffle and the hilarious and#8220;Dogz in Dudzand#8221; K-9 costume contest.

and#8220;This is going to be the real kick off of summer,and#8221; said organizer Bill Jensen. and#8220;Itand#8217;s going to be the first nice sunny day, everybody and their dog is going to be there. They should be: Itand#8217;s going to be tail wagging weather.and#8221;

The pre-race party and registration starts at 1 p.m., and#8220;Dogz in Dudzand#8221; at 2 p.m. and the Derbee commences immediately after. Cost to sponsor a duck is $10 and the top three ducks win cash. The amount depends on the size of the pot. There is no cost to enter the costume contest. Prizes will be awarded to the most stylish and creative canines. A Giant mountain bike will be the grand prize in the raffle.

The TDD is sponsored by Charter Communications, Suddenlink, Outside Lake Tahoe TV, Around Tahoe TV, the Squaw Valley Times, the Kiwanis of North Lake Tahoe, West Shore Sports and Giant Bicycles. This fun-filled afternoon features one of the silliest races around when the rubber ducks float down the Truckee River. Bring the whole family out to sponsor a duck in this unpredictably splashy race. Meet this yearand#8217;s Pet of Honor, a pet chosen from submissions telling their stories of heroism, triumph and love. Dress up your dog and participate in the wildest and wackiest dog costume contest around, the Dogz in Dudz contest, all to help homeless pets in our community.

Stick around for one of the best raffles in town, so plan on enjoying the festivities until 5 p.m. on the River Ranch patio.

You can also pre-purchase ducks at http://www.hstt.org/events/truckee-duckee-derbee. The prize money awarded depends on the amount of ducks sold, with the average first place duck earning up to $200 in winnings, second place at $100 and third place at $50. This is a great way to participate in the race and support the Humane Society even if you canand#8217;t attend the event. Theyand#8217;ll take your duck to the race and make sure itand#8217;s in the running to win.
