Forest Foundation names Barr new chief executive officer
AUBURN, Calif. and#8211; The Forest Foundation announced Michael Barr has been named Chief Executive Officer for the nonprofit organization, which is dedicated to educating Californians about forests and environmental issues.
The Forest Foundation is elevating key points in the forest management debate and building valuable relationships with educators and communities. The nonprofit organization brings forest science to students, prepares future leaders, and develops on-the-ground solutions to improve forest health.
Mr. Barr joins the organization after 25 years of leadership positions in both public and non-profit organizations.
and#8220;The Forest Foundation has an excellent track record of educating the public about our forests, which cover 40 percent of land in California and are vitally important to our state,and#8221; Mr. Barr said. and#8220;I look forward to building on that record, expanding our outreach to educators and giving young people a closer look at the incredible opportunities for science and technology-based careers in managing our forests.and#8221;
Mr. Barr previously served as President and CEO for the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation, the nationand#8217;s largest and most senior leadership development program in agriculture.
Under his leadership, The Forest Foundation will continue to promote all aspects of forest health, including wildlife habitat (www.spi-ind.com/html/forests_wildlife.cfm), native plant species (www.spi-ind.com/html/forests_species.cfm), water quality (www.spi-ind.com/html/forests_watersheds.cfm) and the economic value they provide. The organization will also continue its role of educating the public about forests ability to absorb carbon and the negative effects of forest wildfires on the environment.
