Free community recycling day in Truckee: Dispose of electronics, confidential papers and yard waste

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The Town of Truckee in partnership with Suddenlink is happy to announce the 5th annual Electronic Waste Recycling event Saturday, June 18, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the back parking lot of Town Hall, 10183 Truckee Airport Road. Residents are encouraged to drop off all their old electronic equipment for free recycling. Computers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, copiers, cell phones, radios, telephones and fax machines are common electronic products that must be kept out of household trash and recycled separately. All of these items plus more will be accepted during the annual collection event.

If you can’t make the event don’t worry and#8211; Electronics Waste may be recycled at the Eastern Regional Landfill (ERL), free of charge throughout the year. The Eastern Regional Landfill is located on Cabin Creek Road off Highway 89 south about three miles outside of the town of Truckee. ERL is open Monday and#8211; Saturday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. For details call Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal at 530-583-0148. Keep your electronic waste separate from any trash and remember recycling electronics at ERL is free.

The Truckee Police Department will once again offer residents the opportunity to bring up to four boxes of their old confidential paperwork for free on site shredding. In years past the shredding of confidential papers have proven extremely successful. Last year alone 9,000 pounds of paper was accepted. Get there early space is limited. The paper shred portion of this event is 9-11 a.m. only. The Truckee Police Department would like to remind you identity theft is a big problem. Always take proper precautions to protect your business personnel information and utilize this paper shred opportunity to safely recycle all your documents that contain personal information.

Also on June 18 Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal will accept pine needles and vegetative waste from area residents. The collection will occur 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Residents are required to unload their own vehicles. Limit of 3 yards (approximately 20 bags) per trip; no commercial landscapers. Locations include:

1. Truckee Rodeo Grounds

2. Glenshire Clubhouse

3. Old Sierra Middle School

This event is open to all area residents. Please be reminded the Green Bag for Green Waste curbside collection program is exclusively available to residents living within the Town of Truckee limits only. Green bags are picked up along with your regular trash. Bags must be tied and weighing no more than 40 pounds for collection to occur. Accepted items include all vegetative waste i.e. pine needles, pine cones, brush, lawn trimmings, etc. No food waste, pet waste, large branches.
